Air Jordan XX9 is the First High-Definition Basketball Shoes

Ok, shoes are not computer display nor camera sensor, but that does not stop the creative minds of marketing folks at Nike to declare the first high-definition shoes from Air Jordan brand.  It's called "XX9".

The XX9, introduced Thursday in New York City, features 25 million pixels on its performance woven upper. It’s crafted by Italian artisans using a two-headed jacquard weaving machine normally for high-quality labels or silk neckties.

So what's so special about this woven technology?  According to Jordan Brand head of marketing, Brian O'Connor, it simply stays in shape.  In his words, “Leather pulls, but this doesn’t. You get a new shoe every time. It never loses its elasticity.”

The XX9 is the 29th version of his shoe and will be sold for $225 a pair in two distinct designs beginning in September.

One version of the shoe, in the familiar black, red and white Chicago Bulls colorway, features the familiar elephant print used in one of the most popular Air Jordan shoes, the Air Jordan III, which debuted in 1988 and was the first shoe in the franchise that Hatfield designed.

"The elephant print is a unique icon that people can associate back to the brand and to Michael himself," Hatfield said.

A second design, in the blue and orange colors of the Oklahoma City Thunder, will be worn by Jordan brand endorser Russell Westbrook and features an oversized "Jumpman" logo.

"When you watch television, things start to not look that distinctive," Hatfield said. "This shoe won't have that problem."
